Meet Ramona

Maybe you've never heard of Ramona Geraldine Quimby. That's ok - because this short summary will bring you up to date on one of the most fascinating childrens' books characters of today. Ramona lives on Klickitat Street in Portland, Oregon with her sister - Beatrice "Beezus", father - Mr. Robert Quimby, mother - Mrs. Dorothy Quimby, and cat - Picky-picky.

Ramona appears as the lead star in 7 coming-of-age stories that follow her progression from kindergarten through the fourth grade. Ramona makes her first appearance in the Henry Huggins series as the irritating little sister of Henry's close friend, Beatrice. Ramona makes a lengtheir appearance in Beezus and Ramona, which stars Beezus as the main character when Ramona is only 4 years old. For this reason, it is not included in the Ramona series proper.

Ramona herself is a bit of a wild child with a vivid imagination; she is precocious and wants to grow up exceedingly fast. She is often misunderstood by the people around her. Ramona adores attention and is a fantastic artist, although has trouble sitting still and spelling words correctly. Ramona has a penchant for making noise and attracting attention too. Despite being a possible "problem child", her parents, especially her father, have a special connection with her.

In the early books, she has some notable toys; a green-haired doll called Chevrolet and an elphant with the name, Ella Funt, fit Ramona's quirky sense of style and lovable creative spirit. She also has a doll named Bendix that becomes the ruin of a birthday cake in Beezus and Ramona. Somehow, wink wink, it manages to find its way into the oven.
